For 2026-27, the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) accepts Top Class College applications and Top Class School renewals until 31 October 2026. Pre-Matric and Post-Matric awards run through state portals, and each state sets its own dates.

What Is the PM YASASVI Scholarship?
PM YASASVI brings the Ministry's older OBC, EBC and DNT scholarships under one umbrella. It has five parts, but only four of them put money in a student's account. The fifth funds the construction of hostels for OBC boys and girls, so you cannot apply for it as a student.
| Component | Who it is for | Where to apply |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Matric Scholarship | Class 9 and 10 students in government schools | State or UT scholarship portal |
| Post-Matric Scholarship | Students in recognised post-matric and post-secondary courses | State or UT scholarship portal |
| Top Class School Education | Class 9 to 12 students in schools notified as Top Class Schools | NSP |
| Top Class College Education | Students admitted to full-time courses at notified institutions | NSP |
If you are a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe student, this scheme is not meant for you. Our guide to SC and ST scholarships on NSP covers the central schemes for those categories.
Who Can Apply for PM YASASVI 2026-27?
You can apply if you are an Indian national from an OBC, EBC or DNT community, your family income from all sources is within ₹2.5 lakh a year, and you meet the conditions of the component you are applying for.
- Category: OBC, EBC or DNT as notified by the Centre or your state or UT, shown by a valid certificate.
- Income: not more than ₹2.5 lakh a year for every component.
- Pre-Matric: full-time student of Class 9 or 10 in a government school. You cannot hold another educational scholarship for the same classes, so you must pick one.
- Post-Matric: studying a recognised course after Class 10, in the state where you are permanently settled. Studying again at the same level, such as B.Com after B.A., is not eligible.
- Top Class School: studying in Class 9 to 12 at a school notified as a Top Class School. These are schools with a 100% pass record in Classes 10 and 12.
- Top Class College: admitted to a full-time course at a notified institution, within the slots given to that institution. IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs, AIIMS and National Law Universities are examples of institutions that can be notified.
- Siblings: under Top Class College, no more than two siblings in a family can take the benefit, and you submit an affidavit to confirm it.
A note on slots. Top Class School slots are allotted to each state according to its OBC population and announced every April. At least 30% of them are reserved for girls. A student with good marks can still miss out if the state's slots in that class are used up.
How Much Money Does PM YASASVI Give?
The amount depends entirely on the component. The figures below come from the Ministry's scheme document and the NSP guidelines.
| Component | What you get |
|---|---|
| Pre-Matric | ₹4,000 a year as a consolidated academic allowance |
| Post-Matric | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 a year, depending on course group |
| Top Class School | Tuition, hostel and other school charges, up to ₹75,000 a year (Classes 9 and 10) or ₹1,25,000 a year (Classes 11 and 12) |
| Top Class College | Tuition and non-refundable fees (ceiling of ₹2 lakh a year at private institutions), ₹3,000 a month for living expenses, ₹5,000 a year for books, and a one-time laptop grant of up to ₹45,000 |
Here is how the Post-Matric rates split by course group.
| Course group | Academic allowance | Tuition fee | Total a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group 1: professional degree and post-graduate courses, M.Phil., Ph.D., law | ₹10,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹20,000 |
| Group 2: other professional courses leading to a degree, diploma or certificate | ₹8,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹13,000 |
| Group 3: graduate and post-graduate courses not in Groups 1 and 2 | ₹6,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹8,000 |
| Group 4: non-degree courses after Class 10 | ₹5,000 | ₹0 | ₹5,000 |
The Top Class School figures are ceilings, not fixed payments. The grant covers what the school actually charges, up to the limit. So a Class 11 student whose school charges ₹90,000 in tuition and hostel fees should expect support of about ₹90,000, not ₹1.25 lakh. The money goes straight to the student's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer, and for Top Class School it is released in one instalment before 15 August each year.
PM YASASVI Last Date 2026-27
The last date for students on NSP is 31 October 2026. That date applies to Top Class College applications and to Top Class School renewals. NSP does not show a fresh application window for Top Class School in 2026-27.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| NSP scheme opened | 1 June 2026 |
| Last date for student applications (Top Class College and Top Class School renewal) | 31 October 2026 |
| Defective application correction and institute verification | Until 15 November 2026 |
| District, state and ministry level verification | Until 30 November 2026 |
| Pre-Matric and Post-Matric | Set by your state or UT portal |
| Result or merit list | No date announced |
Two things can confuse you here. Some websites still show 31 August 2026 as the school deadline, and at least one Tamil Nadu district notice gave 30 September 2026 for school renewals with school verification by 15 October 2026. Those are local or older dates. The NSP schemes page, last updated in June 2026, is the reference to follow, and your school's nodal officer has the final word on your own cut-off.
If you are a Class 9 or Class 11 student hoping to apply fresh for a Top Class School seat, ask your principal now whether a fresh window will open this year. Do not rely on a blog or video for that answer, including this one.
Is There an Entrance Test for PM YASASVI in 2026-27?
No entrance test is mentioned in the current NSP guidelines. The Top Class School guidelines say a state-wise merit list is prepared for each class, for boys and girls separately, using the marks from the final exam of the previous class. We also did not find any 2026-27 notice for a YASASVI entrance test. If you see a coaching site asking for a registration fee for an "exam", check it against NSP before paying anything.
Documents Required for PM YASASVI
Keep clear scans ready before you open the form.
- Aadhaar number and an active Aadhaar-linked mobile number (needed for One Time Registration on NSP)
- Income certificate showing family income up to ₹2.5 lakh a year
- Caste certificate for the OBC, EBC or DNT category
- Bank account details of the student, with the account linked to Aadhaar
- Marks of the final exam of the previous class (Top Class School)
- Admission rank and fee details (Top Class College, first year)
State portals can ask for extra documents, such as a domicile certificate or a state ID, so read your state's checklist as well.
How to Apply for PM YASASVI Online on NSP
These steps apply to Top Class College applications and Top Class School renewals.
- Open scholarships.gov.in and complete One Time Registration with your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. If you need help with this step, our NSP scholarship 2026-27 registration guide walks through it.
- Log in and open the scheme by its NSP name: "PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in College for OBC, EBC and DNT Students" or "PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in Schools for OBC, EBC and DNT Students".
- Fill in your personal, academic and bank details. School students enter the marks of the previous class. College students enter admission rank and fee details.
- Upload the income certificate and caste certificate.
- Submit the form and save your application ID.
- Follow up with your school or institute nodal officer. They verify the application online, and the district or state officer confirms it afterwards.
For Pre-Matric and Post-Matric, apply on the scholarship portal of the state or UT where you are domiciled. Each state announces its own start and end dates.
How Are Students Selected?
Top Class School: the merit list is made state-wise and class-wise, with boys and girls ranked separately, and awards are allotted automatically on merit.
Top Class College: a notified institution gets a set number of slots per course. If more eligible students are admitted than there are slots, the scholarship goes to the top students in the merit list based on the admission criteria for that course. If two students tie for the last slot, the one with the lower family income is preferred. Other OBC, EBC and DNT students at the same institution can still take the Post-Matric Scholarship through their state.
Pre-Matric and Post-Matric: the state or UT government selects students from eligible applicants. Thirty per cent of Post-Matric funds are earmarked for girls and 5% for students with disabilities.
How to Check PM YASASVI Status and Result
Log in to NSP and use the Application Status option to see where your form is stuck. For selection, NSP publishes a "List of Applicants Processed for Scholarships", and there is no separate result PDF. If your status shows pending at the institute level, the delay is almost always with the school or college, so speak to the nodal officer.
Renewal Rules
Top Class College students have to apply every year, even for renewal. The award continues until the course is complete, but it ends if you are not promoted to the next semester or class. Pre-Matric and Post-Matric awards need at least 75% attendance in the previous year.
Common Mistakes That Cost Students the Scholarship
- Using an outdated income certificate. The figure must be within ₹2.5 lakh and the certificate must be valid for the year.
- Applying under the wrong scheme name. The school and college schemes are listed separately on NSP.
- Skipping the institute step. After you submit, the school or institute has to verify the form before 15 November 2026. Unverified forms do not move forward.
- An unlinked bank account. Payment goes by DBT, so the account has to be linked to Aadhaar.
- Holding two scholarships for the same purpose. Top Class School students cannot take other government assistance for items the scheme already covers, and Post-Matric holders choose one scholarship or stipend.
- Mixing up the NSP date and the state date. The 31 October 2026 deadline does not apply to your state's Pre-Matric or Post-Matric portal.
If You Do Not Qualify, Look at Other Options
PM YASASVI is limited by slots, category and income. If your family income is above ₹2.5 lakh or your school is not a Top Class School, other schemes may still fit. Many states run their own OBC post-matric schemes, and our Madhya Pradesh government scholarship guide shows how one state handles OBC post-matric support and its portals.
