About the Program

The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students is a 100% centrally funded initiative launched in 2008 by the Ministry of Education. It provides financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to pursue higher education in recognized colleges and universities across India. A total of 82,000 scholarships are distributed annually — 41,000 for boys and 41,000 for girls.

Eligibility
  • Students scoring above the 80th percentile in Class 12th from a recognized board.

  • Family income less than ₹8 lakh per annum.

  • Pursuing regular (non-distance) undergraduate or postgraduate courses in recognized institutions.

  • Not receiving any other scholarship or fee reimbursement.

  • Diploma students are not eligible.

  • Reservation applies: SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC (27%), PwD (5%).

  • Age limit: 18–25 years.

Benefits
  • ₹10,000 per year for the first three years of graduation.

  • ₹20,000 per year for post-graduation.

  • ₹10,000 per year for the first three years and ₹20,000 per year for the 4th and 5th years of integrated/technical courses.

  • The scholarship is renewed annually based on satisfactory academic performance.

  • Scholarship amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

How can you apply?
  • Apply online only through the National Scholarship Portal.

  • Register as a new user and complete your profile with Aadhaar, income, and educational details.

  • Select “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students.”

  • Upload required documents (Class 12 marksheet, income certificate, caste/disability certificate if applicable, Aadhaar, bank passbook).

  • Submit the form and track status via the NSP dashboard.

  • Scholarship renewal is required every year for the duration of the course.
