The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students is a 100% centrally funded initiative launched in 2008 by the Ministry of Education. It provides financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to pursue higher education in recognized colleges and universities across India. A total of 82,000 scholarships are distributed annually — 41,000 for boys and 41,000 for girls.
Students scoring above the 80th percentile in Class 12th from a recognized board.
Family income less than ₹8 lakh per annum.
Pursuing regular (non-distance) undergraduate or postgraduate courses in recognized institutions.
Not receiving any other scholarship or fee reimbursement.
Diploma students are not eligible.
Reservation applies: SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC (27%), PwD (5%).
Age limit: 18–25 years.
₹10,000 per year for the first three years of graduation.
₹20,000 per year for post-graduation.
₹10,000 per year for the first three years and ₹20,000 per year for the 4th and 5th years of integrated/technical courses.
The scholarship is renewed annually based on satisfactory academic performance.
Scholarship amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
Apply online only through the National Scholarship Portal.
Register as a new user and complete your profile with Aadhaar, income, and educational details.
Select “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students.”
Upload required documents (Class 12 marksheet, income certificate, caste/disability certificate if applicable, Aadhaar, bank passbook).
Submit the form and track status via the NSP dashboard.
Scholarship renewal is required every year for the duration of the course.
