Lakshadweep Scholarship Scheme
About the Program

The Lakshadweep Scholarship Scheme, an initiative by the Department of Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, aims to provide financial assistance to students from the Lakshadweep Union Territory. This program alleviates financial burdens and empowers students to pursue their educational aspirations.


Eligibility
  • Both parents and the student must be born in Lakshadweep or have one parent from Lakshadweep.
  • The student and the Islander parent must reside in the Islands.
  • Scholars cannot receive other scholarships, must surrender any such awards, and repay funds received.
  • Retention of concessions granted by the institution or administration is allowed.
  • Scholars can pursue courses in Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Law, or Commerce in recognized Indian institutions.
  • Educational concessions on the mainland are only for studies not available in the Islands.
  • Stipends may be granted or renewed for health reasons or disability.
Benefits
  • Financial support through monthly scholarships and lump sum grants for students of different education levels.

  • Support for students studying outside their native island due to unavailability of facilities.

  • Continued support for higher education, including professional and research courses.

  • Pre-degree, Post Matric, Diploma, Degree Courses (Arts, Science, Commerce, B.Ed., LLB, etc.): ₹1,800/month + ₹1,500 lump sum

  • Post Graduate (Arts, Science, Commerce, Law): ₹2,100/month + ₹1,800 lump sum

  • MBBS, BDS, Engineering, MBA, BVSc, B.Sc (Agriculture): ₹2,100/month + ₹3,600 lump sum

  • Post Graduate (Medicine, Engineering, Veterinary, Agriculture) & Research (Ph.D.): ₹3,000/month + ₹9,000 lump sum

  • High School: ₹1,200/month

  • Primary (Class 1–8): ₹600/month

  • Secondary (Class 8–10): ₹200/month

  • Plus Two (in native island): ₹450/month

  • Students of Bitra Island studying in Secondary Std. in other Island: ₹450/month

  • Plus Two (from other islands staying outside hostel): ₹750/month

  • High School students staying outside hostel: ₹600/month


How can you apply?
  • Applications are invited online on the National Scholarship Portal (https://scholarships.gov.in/ ) every April.

  • For New Applicants:

  • Visit the NSP website and click New Registration under Applicant Corner.

  • Read the instructions and check the undertaking box.

  • Register using mobile OTP and get a Registration ID.

  • Submit required documents.

  • For Registered Applicants:

  • Visit the NSP website and click Fresh Application under Applicant Corner.

  • Log in with Application ID & Password.

  • Select the scholarship, fill out the application form, upload documents, and submit.

  • A system-generated registration number will be sent for reference.
