National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme 2025
About the Program

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme, launched by the Government of India in May 2008, aims to reduce dropout rates among economically weaker students after Class 8. It supports meritorious students studying in government, government-aided, and local body schools by offering annual scholarships up to Class 12. Applications are open from June 2, 2025, to August 31, 2025.


Eligibility

To apply, students must:

  • Be promoted from Class 8 to 9 and continue to be promoted in one attempt for renewal.
  • Score at least 60% in Class 10 (55% for SC/ST).
  • Have annual family income not exceeding ₹3,50,000.
  • Not be availing any other central scholarship.
  • Not be studying in KVs/JNVs or pursuing diploma/certificate level or overseas education.
Benefits
  • ₹12,000 annually per selected student (₹1,000 per month).
  • Awarded from Class 9 to Class 12, renewed annually based on eligibility.
  • Disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to students’ bank accounts.
  • Aims to support 1,00,000 students annually across India.
How can you apply?
  • Visit the official NSP portal: https://scholarships.gov.in/

  • Click on “Apply For One-Time Registration (OTR)” to register.

  • Complete mobile OTP and eKYC verification to generate OTR number.

  • Login with OTR and navigate to “Apply for Scholarship”.

  • Fill in NMMS application form with required documents:

  1. Passport photos
  2. Income certificate
  3. Caste/Disability certificate (if applicable)
  4. Mark sheet of Class 7/8
  5. Aadhaar card
  6. Residence proof
  7. Submit and verify all details.
  • Final verification and disbursement done through DBT after approvals from institution and authorities.
