About the Program

The SMILE (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise) scheme by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provides comprehensive rehabilitation for transgender persons. Under this initiative, free skill development training is provided through Short Term (200–600 hours/up to 6 months) and Long Term (5 months–1 year/up to 1000 hours) programmes to enhance employability and livelihood opportunities.

Eligibility
  • Transgender persons between the ages of 18–45 years having a valid Transgender Certificate & Identity Card issued by the National Portal for Transgender Persons are eligible.
Benefits
  • Free of cost skill development training.

  • Monthly stipend of ₹1000 per trainee for non-residential training (on 80% attendance).

  • Post-placement assistance.

  • Support and facilitation for wage or self-employment.

  • Eligible candidates can register through the National Portal for Transgender Persons by providing their valid Transgender Certificate and ID Card.
  • Training programme selection is based on applicant preference and availability.
