About the Program

The National Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies, administered by the University Grants Commission (UGC), supports approximately 10,000 meritorious students annually in pursuing their first full-time postgraduate degree in India. The scholarship aims to promote higher education among deserving students, with special priority given to girl children and underrepresented categories.

Amount: ₹1,000 – ₹15,000

Eligibility: Applicants must be Indian students under 30 years of age, enrolled in their first full-time regular postgraduate degree program at a UGC-recognized institution.

Benefits:

The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 for 10 months each year for the two- year duration of the postgraduate program. The total number of scholarships available is 10,000 Per year.

Eligibility Description:
  • Must have secured admission in the first year of a regular/full-time postgraduate degree in a recognized Indian institution. Must have completed an undergraduate degree from an institution recognized under Section 2(f) or 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or authorized to award degrees under Section 22(1) of the Act.
  • Must be below 30 years of age at the time of admission to the PG program.
  • Eligible only for the first PG degree (students who already hold a PG degree are not eligible).
  • Students enrolled in open/distance/correspondence/private/part-time modes are not eligible.
  • In case of integrated programs, the scholarship will be applicable only for the PG component.
  • The PG course must be recognized under the UGC Notification on Specification of Degrees,2014 (and amendments, if any).
  • 30% reservation for women candidates. Priority given to Single/Twin/Fraternal Girl Child, regardless of UG marks.

  • Undergraduate Degree Marksheet (original/provisional/online copy)
  • Admission Proof from the institution (confirming 1st year PG enrollment)
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Income Certificate issued by a competent authority. Ration card not accepted
  • Caste/Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Disability Certificate (if applicable)
  • Aadhaar Card (must be Aadhaar-seeded with bank account)
  • Bank Passbook (first page showing student’s name, account number, and IFSC code)
  • Domicile Certificate (if required by the institution)
How to Apply
  • Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
  • Register as a new user using your mobile number and email.
  • Log in and fill in personal, academic, and institutional details.
  • Choose “UGC – PG Scholarship” scheme from the dropdown.
  • Review carefully — errors can lead to rejection or payment delays.
  • Apply online (no documents to upload).
  • Submit physical documents to your institution for verification.
