The SERB – POWER Grant Research Scheme aims to encourage and empower emerging and eminent women researchers in India. It provides individual-centric, competitive research funding to undertake R&D activities in frontier areas of science and engineering. The grant is categorized into two levels based on the type of institution the applicant is affiliated with.
Amount: ₹30,00,000 – ₹60,00,000

Award: Funding up to ₹60 lakhs (Level I) and ₹30 lakhs (Level II) for a duration of 3 years. Budget covers equipment, manpower, consumables, travel, contingency, and institutional overheads.
Eligibility: Applicants (PI and Co-PIs) must be Indian citizens. Must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized academic institution, national lab, or R&D institution in India. Level I: Open to applicants from IITs, IISERs, IISc, NITs, Central Universities, and National Labs of Central Govt. Level II: Open to applicants from State Universities/Colleges and Private Institutions. Female Co-PI from the same institution is mandatory. Male Co-PI and PhD guide as Co-PI are not allowed. PIs with a prior POWER Grant or two completed CRGs or JC Bose fellows are not eligible. Max two Co-PIs allowed per project.

Level I: Applicants from premier institutions (IITs, IISERs, NITs, etc.).
Level II: Applicants from State or Private Institutions.
Female Co-PI from the same institute mandatory.
Male Co-PIs and PhD guides as Co-PI not allowed.
Those who have already availed POWER Grant, or completed 2 CRGs, or are JC Bose Fellows, cannot apply.
Max two Co-PIs allowed.
Applications must be submitted via the SERB-Core Research Grant (CRG) platform.
Proposals will be accepted only in direct mode.
Selection is based on recommendations of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC).
